Community Participation – Key to Promote Girls Education in Mchinji

Women’s Hope for Change, a local charity organization that championed child education in Mchinji district has called all key stakeholders to support Community day Secondary Schools in Mchinji district with girls’ hostel. The Executive Director for the organization made the remarks during the interface meeting which her organization organized at Bua Community Day. The meeting was organized following high pregnancies rate the school registered in the 2016/2017 academic year where the school has registered 38 pregnancies. In her remarks Mchinji District Commissioner Mrs.  Rosemary Nawasha who was the guest of honour at the meeting called for collective efforts among the community and NGOs to mobilize resources to construct the girl’s hostel at Bua Community day Secondary School to alleviate the problem. The meeting also gave community members to come up with ideas that can help to promote girls education in the district . After all the recommendations made, the community appointed a task force committee to help in the mobilization of resources to construct girls hostels. Chairman of the task force Councilor Stanley promised people of the district that his committee will soon start mobilizing resources that will be needed for the construction of the hostel. Bua Community day secondary school is the only community day secondary school that is found at Mchinji boma with a total population of 456 students. The School support students from 4 Traditional Authorities.
